Nick – Family Part 3

My mom is really devout. She started following Medjugorje. I think it was three years ago that she really started getting into it and reading books. She read us Mary’s messages and stuff from the visionaries. That was the first time I interacted with it and heard about it. 

Two years ago is when she first said we should go. 

I’d never been out of the country. I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know what we would do. I was like, “I’ll go.” I didn’t feel a huge calling to go. Some people were like, “I felt a calling.” I didn’t feel the calling. On the plane ride here, I was like, “I want to go home. I hate being on a plane.” It was terrible, but right now, I’m so glad that I came here. 

Medjugorje is the pinnacle of Godly love and divine love. I thought it would be like some supernatural thing, apparitions everywhere, like the Risen Christ statue that has the weird moisture on it, but it’s not.

Everybody says it feels like home. I didn’t feel like a foreigner here. I felt like I was right where I needed to be. 

I think the biggest things that I got out of Medjugorje were a definite increase in my faith. Before, I was Catholic, but now I’m ready. I feel good about myself. I feel good about being Catholic. Before, I always thought it was too hard or not for me. It felt weird, but now I feel in tune with it. 

I think a lot of it was seeing Mirjana, how she exudes love all the time. She just looks so happy all the time. I feel like it just rubbed off on me a little bit. 

Praying the Rosary also helped a lot.

Also, I developed a profound respect for the miracle of the Eucharist. I understand it now. I was on the bus and our local guide Miki came up to us on the way here and he said, “Are you guys ready?”

I was like, “Yeah. I’m excited. Are we going to be able to see the dancing sun?” because my mom told me about that, and I thought it would be cool to see. 

He said, “Maybe. You never know. But I’ll show you two miracles a day, guaranteed.” I didn’t know what he was talking about. Then it clicked the first Mass that I saw. It’s the miracle on the altar, the Eucharist. 

It’s surreal, especially during the two International Masses. There were over 10,000 people. To see that many people in reverence, especially during Adoration when it was dead silent with thousands of people around. And hearing all the different languages, it feels like when the Holy Spirit came down on the apostles and they all spoke different languages. You hear how everybody worships. 

Definitely a fantastic trip so far.
